Olfactory Receptor 51E2 (OR51E2)

OR51E2 is a member of the olfactory receptor subfamily of G protein-coupled receptors. OR51E2 contains a predicted N-terminal N-glycosylation site, conserved cysteine residues in the first 2 extracellular loops, and conserved sequence motifs in addition to the 7 transmembrane domain GPCR signature motif. OR51E2 shares 93% amino acid identity with the rat and mouse homologs. Northern blot analysis of human tissues detected predominant OR51E2 expression in prostate with low expression in spleen and liver; however, in mouse tissues, Or51e2 was detected in brain and colon, but not in prostate, with 2 faint larger transcripts in heart and liver. Rat Or51e2 expression was detected primarily in brain with lower expression in liver and low expression in heart.
